Queer Affirming Therapy; Counseling for LGBTQ

How We Support
LGBTQIA+ Communities

We know that healing for LGBTQ+ folks isn’t just about symptoms—it’s about navigating a world that often doesn’t reflect or protect our truths. Our work is about creating space for you to feel whole, affirmed, and empowered in all aspects of your life.

Here are just some of the areas we commonly support clients with:

  • Coming Out & Identity Exploration
Whether you're just beginning to explore your sexual orientation or gender identity—or revisiting questions you thought you had resolved—therapy can be a powerful space to process confusion, fear, excitement, and self-discovery in a nonjudgmental environment.

  • Gender Dysphoria & Gender Affirmation
We offer support for trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse individuals navigating dysphoria, name and pronoun changes, social or medical transitions, and the daily realities of living authentically in systems not built for us.

  • Relationship Issues, Queer Breakups & Chosen Family
We understand that queer relationships carry their own joys and challenges. We help clients work through boundary setting, communication, heartbreak, poly dynamics, family estrangement, and the healing power of chosen family.

  • Religious Trauma, Family Rejection & Internalized Shame
Many LGBTQ+ folks carry deep wounds from being rejected by religious institutions or family members. We create space for you to grieve, challenge internalized beliefs, and rebuild a relationship with yourself that centers compassion—not shame.

  • Minority Stress, Discrimination & Systemic Oppression
We address how racism, transphobia, homophobia, fatphobia, ableism, and other forms of systemic harm affect your mental health—and work with you to build tools for resilience, boundary-setting, and joy.

  • Intersectional Identity Work (LGBTQ+ & BIPOC)
We hold space for the layered complexity of living at the intersection of multiple identities—offering support for clients navigating cultural expectations, code-switching, generational trauma, and the weight of invisibility or hypervisibility.

  • Self-Esteem, Resilience & Authentic Living
Therapy can help you reconnect with your sense of worth, power, and possibility. We support you in moving from survival mode into thriving—on your own term

At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, our team of highly trained, inclusive therapists are dedicated to helping queer and gender diverse people achieve a greater sense of self-awareness, peace, and well-being. We have a passion for helping our clients find the insight and strength needed to work through their challenges, as well as to develop a sense of self-acceptance and worth. Our goal is to create a safe, inclusive space for all of our clients to feel heard and seen, no matter their identity.

How We Work

At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, we approach therapy as a collaborative, liberatory practice rooted in deep respect for your identity, your culture, and your story. We don’t just treat symptoms—we hold space for your full humanity. Here’s how our affirming, trauma-informed care supports LGBTQ+ healing:

  • Decolonized  & Narrative Therapy
We help you examine and rewrite the stories you've internalized about your identity, your worth, and your future. This work is especially important for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC clients who’ve been told—explicitly or implicitly—that they don’t belong. We honor your lived experience while helping you release what no longer serves you.

  • Anti-Oppressive & Culturally Responsive Frameworks
Everything we do is grounded in an awareness of power, privilege, and systemic harm. We practice cultural humility, honor your intersectional identity, and center your voice in every step of the therapeutic process.

  • Somatic Therapy & Mindfulness-Based Practices
Trauma lives in the body. Through body-based techniques like grounding, breathwork, and movement, we help you feel safer in your skin and develop tools to manage anxiety, dysphoria, and chronic stress. You’ll learn how to regulate your nervous system and access a sense of calm—even in an unjust world.

  • Relational & Attachment-Based Therapy
We explore how your early relationships shaped your current patterns, boundaries, and sense of self. Whether you're navigating intimacy, disconnection, abandonment wounds, or trust issues, we help you build more secure, fulfilling relationships—with others and yourself.

  • Collaborative, Client-Led Care
You are the expert on your life. We don’t assume, pathologize, or rush your process. We work collaboratively, checking in regularly to make sure your goals, needs, and voice stay at the center of your healing.

We understand that traditional forms of therapy have often failed to provide appropriate support for our queer, trans and Q+BIPOC communities, which has, understandably, resulted in a lack of trust in mental health professionals and a reluctance to seek therapy.  Our LGBTQ+ affirming therapists seek to address these issues by creating a safe and inclusive environment where you  can  focus on the concerns that bring you to therapy without fear of judgment, invalidation, or discrimination.

Our affirming therapy practices can empower you to be your most authentic self and to develop a deeper understanding and acceptance of your unique intersecting identities. We can provide support in navigating family dynamics, social expectations, harmful norms, and while helping you build healthier relationships in your life – with your self, with others, and with your community. We strive to provide you with affirmation and validation through every step of your journey.

Meet our Queer-identified therapists

All of our therapists at the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy are queer allies, and most are also members of the LGBTQ+ communities. Many of us also live at the intersections of multiple marginalized identities, such as race and ethnicity, religion, and nuerodivergence.  While a lived queer-experience does not guarantee we will fully understand every aspect of your identity, what we can promise is that our our affirming therapists strive to see ALL of you and to truly understand ALL of your intersecting identities. We won’t ask you to educate us on the fundamentals of the LGBTQ+ experience and can ask deeper questions that move you forward. What we will do is hold all your identities, contexts, and the impact of oppression while addressing the issues that bring you to therapy.
