Anxiety Therapy

Find Peace Within.

Anxiety is a complex and multifaceted experience that can affect every aspect of your life. At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, we understand that anxiety can feel overwhelming, isolating, and even paralyzing. Whether you're dealing with constant worry, panic attacks, or social anxiety, we are here to help you navigate these challenges with empathy and expertise.

Anxiety is a natural response to stress, but when it becomes chronic or intense, it can interfere with your ability to live a fulfilling life. Anxiety can manifest in various ways, including:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Persistent, excessive worry about everyday situations, often accompanied by physical symptoms like restlessness, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

  • Panic Disorder: Recurrent panic attacks—sudden episodes of intense fear that trigger severe physical reactions, such as heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and dizziness.

  • Social Anxiety Disorder: An intense fear of social situations, leading to avoidance or significant distress, often rooted in a fear of being judged, embarrassed, or humiliated.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) performed to relieve anxiety.

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Anxiety stemming from exposure to a traumatic event, resulting in flashbacks, nightmares, and hypervigilance.

  • Specific Phobias: Irrational fears of specific objects or situations that lead to avoidance behavior and significant anxiety.

You don’t have to let anxiety control your life. At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, we are here to help you find relief, regain control, and build a life that is meaningful and fulfilling. Our compassionate team is ready to support you on your journey to healing and empowerment.

How Marginalization Impacts Anxiety

At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, we understand that anxiety can be particularly challenging for individuals with marginalized identities. For People of Color, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and those living with disabilities—anxiety is often intertwined with the lived realities of racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other forms of discrimination. These experiences can manifest as:

  • Racial Trauma: Repeated exposure to racism and microaggressions can lead to chronic stress and anxiety. Racial trauma is a legitimate and significant factor in the mental health of people of color, contributing to symptoms such as hypervigilance, mistrust, and avoidance behaviors.

  • Minority Stress: LGBTQ+ individuals often face unique stressors related to their sexual orientation or gender identity, including fear of rejection, internalized stigma, and the pressure to conform to societal norms. This minority stress can lead to heightened anxiety and other mental health challenges.

  • Immigration-Related Anxiety: For immigrants and refugees, anxiety may be related to fear of deportation, separation from family, and the challenges of adapting to a new culture. These experiences can also be compounded by xenophobia and discrimination.

  • Intersectionality: Many individuals hold multiple marginalized identities, leading to intersecting forms of oppression that compound anxiety. For example, a Black transgender woman may experience racism, transphobia, and sexism simultaneously, leading to a complex and heightened experience of anxiety.

At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, we are here to walk alongside you as you navigate the complexities of anxiety and marginalization. We are dedicated to providing a therapeutic environment that is not only inclusive and affirming but also deeply responsive to the unique challenges you face.

We are committed to providing culturally competent care that acknowledges and addresses the impact of systemic oppression, discrimination, and trauma on mental health. We utilize a range of evidence-based therapies to help you manage and overcome anxiety, including:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is one of the most effective treatments for anxiety. It focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns that contribute to anxiety and replacing them with healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. CBT also teaches practical coping skills to manage anxiety in everyday situations.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT encourages you to accept difficult emotions rather than avoiding them. It emphasizes living in accordance with your values and taking committed action to improve your life, even in the presence of anxiety.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the mind and body. It can be an effective treatment for anxiety because it helps you become more aware of you physical sensations and how they relate to your emotions. By learning to recognize and regulate these sensations, you can reduce your anxiety symptoms

Interpersonal/Relational Therapy

Interpersonal therapy  focuses on improving communication and relationships with others. IPT can also help you identify and address any underlying issues that may be contributing to your anxiety. By addressing interpersonal and increasing insight,  you can learn new ways to cope with stress and improve your  well-being.

Exposure Therapy

For individuals with phobias, PTSD, or OCD, exposure therapy gradually introduces you to feared situations or objects in a controlled and safe environment. This process helps reduce anxiety over time and empowers you to confront and overcome your fears.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma can be a significant underlying factor in anxiety. Our trauma-informed approach ensures that therapy is conducted in a safe, supportive environment that prioritizes your emotional well-being. We help you process and heal from past traumas that may be contributing to your anxiety.

You don’t have to let anxiety control your life. At the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, we are here to help you find relief, regain control, and build a life that is meaningful and fulfilling. Our compassionate team is ready to support you on your journey to healing and empowerment.
